In Toronto on the 4th of August 2016, Habitat Greater Toronto Area and community leaders worked together to begin the construction of a housing structure that will provide housing for 50 vacancies. The project is scheduled to be available for renting by 2019. The families that move in will be paying a no-interest mortgage capped at 30% of their annual income. Mayor John Tory is in full support of this endeavor and participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony to get things started.

The Habitat for Humanity GTA has been working to provide families with affordable housing options since 1988. Some options include zero down payment and no-interest mortgages with capped stipulations. The organization has worked with over 300 families and housing projects in the Caledon, York, Brampton and Toronto areas. The regional sector is part of more than 1,400 affiliates that work worldwide to improve community living.
