What if you could use the power of your smartphone to help fight cancer? That's the idea behind DreamLab, a free app created by the Vodafone Italia Foundation that allows users to donate to cancer research using their unused phones, the Telegraph reports.
The app downloads small packets of data to researchers, who then process them using distributed computing.
"With traditional calculation methods it would take decades to do the data analysis work, with DreamLab it is possible to process them in a few months," the foundation says.
DreamLab is part of the second phase of the " explorer of tumor cells" project, which aims to identify the types of cells that make up the tumor ecosystem and figure out ways to target them.
