Uk Urges More Progress on Global Food Security at G20

A new report from the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization finds that the world is on track to miss its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2030 thanks to unsustainable agriculture, Bloomberg reports.

According to a press release, the report found that by 2030, the world will need to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 36%, compared to 2005 levels, in order to meet the Paris climate accord's goal of keeping global average temperatures from rising 3.6 degrees over pre-industrial levels.

Meanwhile, the world's population is expected to grow to 9 billion by 2050, making food security an "urgent, ongoing priority" for countries around the world, UK Secretary of State for Food and Rural Affairs Th ? r ? se Coffey said at a G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting in Hyderabad, India, this week.

"We need to recognize that protecting and supporting the power of nature is essential, and in many cases the most effective and cost-effective way to roll out solutions at scale," Coffey said, perMirage.
