Women make up 50% of the world's population and "need to be represented in organizations such as ours," says the head of the Bank for International Settlements, the group that oversees the world's central banks.
"Research tells us that for a group to have a collective impact on organizational culture, it should represent at least 30% of the workforce," Bank for International Settlements General Manager Agust ? 'n Carstens said Monday at the group's Innovation Summit in London.
To that end, the BIS has set gender targets for new hires of line managers and senior professionals: In 2020, the group wants new hires of line managers and senior professionals to make up at least 30% of the workforce, and in 2020, it wants 28% of its senior professionals to be women.
"We are embracing this spirit of innovation across our organization, and we can do so only by embracing the opportunities offered through diversity," Carstens said, noting that the group has eight Innovation Hubs around the world where different central banks, academia, and the private sector meet to collaborate on new technologies.
