The Old Medical School in Leeds, England, was once one of the country's first provincial medical schools.
Now, it's being turned into a "hub for health-tech innovation," per a press release from the Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Scarborough Group International, a real estate company, has been selected to develop the school's first phase, a 2.2-million-square-foot "health-tech ecosystem" that will include communal areas, labs, and offices for clinicians, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
"By creating a dynamic environment where clinicians, academics, researchers, and entrepreneurs can transform, innovate, and grow, we want to help drive forward the development of ground-breaking technologies and solutions, and support their swift integration into the broader healthcare landscape, benefiting patients and advancing the forefront of medical innovation," a SGI rep tells the Yorkshire Post.
The Old Medical School was built in the late 19th century as one of the first provincial medical schools in England.
It's currently home to the trust's pathology department, which is moving to St.
James' University Hospital.
The new hub is expected to create 237 jobs.
