If you're in the medical device industry, you may have heard of mass finishing and shot blasting, but what you may not know is that they're used in the same wayand in the same way that they're crucial to the quality of the medical devices they're used to.

In an article titled "Mass Finishing and Shot Blasting in the Medical Industry," R&D magazine explains that the two are " instrumental in ensuring the reliability and safety of medical components."

Mass finishing and shot blasting can be separated into two categories: vibratory finishing, which involves "tumbling," and shot blasting, which involves "forceful projection of abrasive materials against the surface of the component."

There are two types of finishing used in medical devices: mass finishing and shot blasting.

The former uses "gentle and controlled" techniques, while the latter " employs forceful projection of abrasive materials," such as steel or glass beads, against the surface of the part, explains a post at Eureka Alert.
