Nearly half of the world's population doesn't have a place to wash their hands with soap and water, and more than a third of those don't have access to safe drinking water, sanitation, or menstrual hygiene services, according to UNICEF.
Now the UN children's agency has launched the Sustainable Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Innovation Hub in Denmark, with the goal of helping to solve some of the world's biggest water, sanitation, and hygiene problems by 2030, the BBC reports.
Among the innovations being considered: hand-washing stations that can be set up in remote areas, as well as devices to detect leaks in water networks and wastewater systems.
The innovations will be tested in 150 countries, with the goal of doubling access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services by 2030.
