Rayees Rahman may not be a household name, but he's the winner of a prestigious life-sciences investment competition in the United Arab Emirates.
The 21-year-old won the JP Morgan Asset Management Life Sciences Innovation Summit in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday with his company, Harmonic Discovery, which uses a "generative chemistry platform" to discover and develop therapies for diseases, including cancer, the BBC reports.
The runners-up were Algen Biotechnologies, which uses AI to find treatments for cancer, and Carexso Dr., which uses gene therapy to treat diseases such as Parkinson's, per a press release.
The competition was announced as part of Abu Dhabi's Global Healthcare Week, which aims to raise awareness of the emirate's leading role in medical innovation.
The runners-up will advance to the next round of competition.
